Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico -Ariel Freaner, a Hermosillo, Sonora native, along with his daughter María Fernanda Freaner have just won three Emmys on June 17 in the area of Graphic Arts, Visual Effects/Composition, and Art Direction.

“I am from Hermosillo, and I have worked in San Diego for many years; I do graphic design, animation, and many other creative services. We have produced various creative projects, and this year we were nominated for six Emmy Awards, of which we won three, all in graphic arts. Last year we were nominated for audio, and we won two Emmys for audio, so in total, we have five awards,” said Ariel Freaner in an interview from San Diego, California.

BEST COMMERCIAL MOTION GRAPHICS

Mr. Freaner explained they received awards in Special Effects, Composition, and Art Direction for their work on animated commercials for a supermarket chain.

“We do animation, and we did them for a supermarket chain called Calimax in Mexico, but we produce everything here in the United States. They saw our work and invited us to participate in the Emmys. This year we were blessed to have been nominated in the entire area of graphic arts, he shared.

THEY DID NOT EXPECT TO WIN

Ariel did not expect to win the awards, as they were competing against giants like Telemundo, Fox, Weimar Pictures, MGM Resorts, and others.

“First of all, we knew after the nominations from the beginning that it was tough to win; we thought that we were not going to go beyond our nominations. In fact, I invited my father to enjoy the experience in the second competition, but we didn’t expect to win,” he explained.

“It was a very nice experience; we enjoyed it. I got a little sentimental; my daughter and I are too happy with everything we have achieved with our work. I thanked my family, my dad, and my hometown Sonora”.

PREPARE ANIMATED SERIES OF “LOS BLINCABOLINES”

One of Ariel’s biggest dreams is about to come true; due to Emmys success, they received a couple of proposals to make an animated series of “Los Blincabolines,” cartoons published in EL IMPARTIAL for the first time in 1985.

“When I was a teenager, I published my first cartoons in El Imparcial in February 1985. Now I have updated them and applied them to the American market. We will do a couple of presentations to see if they produce it on television or streaming. The first presentation will be in October and then in February next year,” he said.
“It has been my dream since I was little that I read Mafalda. I have always dreamed of having my own cartoon. Of course, before, I used to make comic strips in high school and published them in El Imparcial, but now, seeing them animated will be a wonderful achievement. We are in the process of storyboards and sketches, I would be the director, and the studio would be our producer. If we achieve the contract, we will have creative freedom”, he concluded.
